Tell Us Why Local Music is Important and Win 2 Tickets to Bif Naked in FSJ

Friday, 19 June 2009 20:50 Written by Northern Groove

We Want Your Feedback on Why Local Music and Arts are exploding in the Peace Region!

We at Northern Groove, believe that local music and arts in Fort St. John and the Peace Region are extremely important to our community!  Additionally, we feel that we're not alone in this thought -- There are more people coming to the shows than ever before & because of that there have been more shows, musicians, and venues popping up all over the place... We want to find out WHY!

We would like to hear your comments on why local music and arts are important!  More so, we want to hear from as many people as possible!  An overflow of comments... petition of sorts if you will.

The purpose of this experiment is to collect the thoughts and quotes of others to include into future articles and promotion materials for live music and arts events in our communities... and...  your quote might appear in an upcoming article, poster, or flyer promoting local music and the Northern Groove Magazine.   Relax... we are not collecting your email address for marketing purposes, and we won't use your full name (unless you really want us to... in case note that in your comment).  You will not be automatically added to our email list... if you want to do that, you can sign up independently here.

Additionally, as an incentive to those who participate, we are also giving away 2 tickets to see Bif Naked live at On the Rocks Night Club this Wednesday June 24th along with opening acts The Manville, and Scatterheart.  Just jot down your thoughts for your chance to win!  Maybe you'll be the lucky one to see all three bands for free!  The tickets will be drawn at random, from all who add a comment before Monday June 22nd.  Please put thought and effort into your comments.  Feel free to write as much as you want!  You must be 19+ to participate in the concert.

Here is how to add a comment and to enter for a chance to win 2 tickets to Bif Naked.

1) Click "Add Comment" on this article and / or fill out the comments form below
2) Be sure to add your working email address so we can contact you if you win

Arts and Music
written by Ayla Malcolm, June 21, 2009
I support local music & arts in my community because, it is important to have inspiration and expression active and alive in the community. It is rewarding for me everyday and I like encouraging it.

I believe local music is important because it inspires connections in the community, it gets people together. It helps people learn about eachother and what they have in common. Music has always had a calming effect. When people listen to music, they become subdued, laidback, inspired and sometimes they just let loose and it becomes an outlet for thier emotions. Live music allows this to happen while a diverse crowd is together which I think helps people gain perspective on thier community.

Local music and arts make my community a better place to live because when people are inspired by either being exposed to musical and artistic expressions or are able to show off thier expressions everyone gains a sense of purpose and perspective of why they do what they do everyday. Music and arts are both a result and expression of the hard work and effort that is put into the community. They are the "give back" and the validation, the reason, the fruits. Whether you are paying to see it, working to create it or assisting the artistic process in others it is rewarding.

there's something about the energy in live music that draws my attention. It's the feel, the groove, the soul.

Where would we be without it?
written by Alison N, June 21, 2009
Local music and arts make my community a better place to live because it gives us the opportunity to express ourselves and to be a part of the expressions of others in our day-to-day lives. When we contribute to our community, we become more invested and proud to live and work here. We find others who are like-minded, we refine our skills, we work together to create a more balanced quality of life that incorporates work, rest and play. Music and art allow us to be vulnerable, expressive, creative and thought-provolking. Where would we be without it?

Supporting local music

By supporting local musicians you are actually giving yourself more opportunities to see great shows more often. It can create a snowball effect with continued support.

The local arts and music scene creates a community that people want to be part of. Without our local arts and music, we would just be buildings that people sleep in, hollow machinations of function. When people have opportunities to participate and enjoy one another, we create a living community where people care, learn from another, and actually *live* here, rather than just seeing it as a place to crash between work shifts.

Why is local music important?
written by Ryan H, June 22, 2009
It's therapy, it's a GREAT time, it's an administrative challenge, it brings people together, it's universal, it keeps us 'up to speed' with the world around us. Did i mention it's a GREAT time?

Ah darn I missed the contest. Here are two anyway...

I believe local music is important because it brings people together.

Local music and arts make my community a better place to live because some of us in FSJ are interested in more than just our trucks and toys.
