NO PITY Recovery Kickoff Fundraiser

Patrick Flintoff a 32 year old from St John, was injured on March 09 2012 in Calgary Alberta. He had sustained life threatening injuries, and miraculously SURVIVED! What happened next was incredible. People started talking about the event, and then they started doing something about it.

The first act of community kindness, was from his work, Paramount Safe Work Systems inc. They all joined together and donated blood for Patrick when he needed it. People began writing cards, talking to the CEO of his favorite hockey team (Boston Bruins) and starting up Facebook Pages for him.

After seeing this amazing outpouring of support, I decided I wanted to take it a bit further... I talked to several people and threw around several ideas, until Tara Myers came up with the idea to incorporate Patricks love for local music. From there we decided to try and organize a Benefit Concert featuring many of our local bands and talents. The response we received was immediate and OVERWHELMING!

Every person we asked for help was not only willing, but went above and beyond what was asked of them. We generated more interest, donations, and volunteers daily. Many of our talented locals have generously donated their time and spirit to this event.

I'm so inspired by the community spirit. We have a closeness that many other places do not have. To know that when one of our own is in trouble, people are not only willing but able to make a difference. To take their time, energy, and talents, and join together to contribute in the aid of a family who is in need.

Today, we are pleased to announce that on April 07 2012 at "On The Rocks Pub" we with the help of a spectacular group of individuals present the "NO PITY RECOVERY KICKOFF FUNDRAISER"!!!

Please join in our efforts to contribute to this amazing cause! Tickets will go on sale Monday March 26 @ ON THE ROCKS PUB and TENACIOUS DETAIL
(TICKETS ARE $20.00 each)

Wearable Fashions From Recycled Movie Film

The reels of movie film as we know it are coming to an end. Along with the demise of photographic film and conventional cameras, celluloid film will be a thing of the past. Movies will soon come to the local cinema on digital. The familiar saying of left on the cutting room floor will take on a new meaning.

Stage North has found a way to celebrate the well-known strips of black mini-frames by challenging creative people to make wearable art and art forms out of recycled movie film. As a Landmark Cinema, the local Aurora is making the switch gradually this spring and has supplied rolls of film for all competitors in the challenge.

A showcase of the creative works will be featured at Stage NorthÆs Annual Oscar Night on the Big Screen on February 26. A fashion show and art exhibit opens at On the Rocks Nightclub on Sunday with the Red Carpet at 5pm and Fashion Show at 7:30pm. The Oscars will be shown on the big screen as they happen live in Hollywood. Tickets are only $15 and available online at tickets.npp.bc.ca or at the NPCC box office.

This unique event is one of a kind and has caught the imagination of many artists. A Youtube video located under Fashion and Form was created by Stage North member Karen Rutledge with the help of local actors and former mayor, Bruce Lantz. Email enquiries have come from as far away as Manchester, England.

Stage North has partnered with Northern Environmental Action Team who has recycling at the top of their list and the Fort St. John Community Arts Council who encourages new creative projects. Along with Dimitri Karampalas at On the Rocks, Stage North and Fort St. John will be the first to stage a fashion show and art exhibit with recycled movie film.

Participants have until February 6 to register and all fashions and artworks are to be delivered by February 22. For further information:  www.stagenorth.ca or phone 250-785-6214.

Attack of La Nina Film Debut

“Attack of La Niña”, the latest full-length feature from MSP Films, debuted before two sold out crowds in Boulder on Saturday, September 17th.

And will be premiering before a rowdy crowd at On The Rocks on Friday, November 4th starting at 7:30 pm.  There will be a 8 dollar cover charge for this event - a small price to pay for an awesome video and a great DJ afterwards!

“This past year, we saw some of the deepest snowfall totals in North America, due to the La Niña winter. We were stoked to post up and film with our crews all over British Columbia and the US,” stated MSP founder Murray Wais. “Coming up to Boulder for the premiere is really special for us, we love the theater, the energy in the crowd, and the community up here. It’s always a really great place for us to debut the movie.”
