Abrams Brothers
Canadian Bluegrass Phenomenon
Grand Ole Opry's Abrams Brothers with Fort St. John’s own Willm Sisters…
The Abrams Brothers – not yet 20 years old and already world renowned. John, 18, James, 15, and cousin Elijah, 18 have been amazing audiences from around the world with their virtuoso playing and effortless harmonies. On October 8th they're coming to Fort St. John…they're young, fresh and crazy talented. Be prepared to be blown away.
In 2005, this Ontario-based group became the youngest Canadians to appear on Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry stage where many stars before them, the likes of Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and, more recently, Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood, have stood. They have already traveled overseas to play a European music tour in 2006 that took them through four countries, including a performance at the 2007 and 2008 Jacob’s Ladder Folk Festival in Israel. In 2006, these talented young men received the Daniel Pearl Memorial violin, awarded to especially gifted young musicians in honour of international journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, who was taken hostage and killed in Pakistan in 2002.
Last year the band released Blue On Brown, an album of songs by Arlo Guthrie and Bob Dylan. The record was the boys’ tribute to songwriters they had always admired. Even Arlo Guthrie, the legend himself, recognized the talent of these two youngsters after he first heard them playing his own songs at one of his shows and thought they were “way too young to be playing that good. I know I will be hearing from The Abrams Brothers for a long time to come.”
As Bob Dylan once sang and The Abrams Brothers sing now, “As the present will later be past, the order is rapidly fadin’.” Dylan’s prophecy couldn’t prove to be truer. Welcome to the new order, an order structured according to talent that is here to stay, courtesy of The Abrams Brothers.

2nd Annual Take Back The Night
Immediately following the Women's Resource Center AGM, Fort St. John residents are invited to participate in the second annual Take Back the Night. The night starts at 8 pm at the North Peace Cultural Centre and will begin with a message about why everyone has come together, then there will be a candlelight march around town. The RCMP will escort the group in support and also to ensure that the community members participating are safe. This year the plan is to take our "message to the street" literally and write inspirational messages during the march. And of course the participant will make a little noise, hoping to draw attention to the cause and inform the community.
TBTN is an internationally held march and rally intended as a protest against rape and sexual violence. It is held by communities to unify women, men, and children in an awareness of all forms of violence, and derogatory treatment faced by women and girls. TBTN participants come together to support those who have been personally touched and take action to create a safe community for all women and their families.
Come join in and support the creation of healthy relationships and spaces for women and families.
Stage North Presents Cabaret
The rousing music and seductive dancers in the musical Cabaret will open the Stage North season of live theatre on October 21 in Fort St. John. “Wilkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!” invites the audience to come hear the music play.
