NO PITY Recovery Kickoff Fundraiser
Patrick Flintoff a 32 year old from St John, was injured on March 09 2012 in Calgary Alberta. He had sustained life threatening injuries, and miraculously SURVIVED! What happened next was incredible. People started talking about the event, and then they started doing something about it.
The first act of community kindness, was from his work, Paramount Safe Work Systems inc. They all joined together and donated blood for Patrick when he needed it. People began writing cards, talking to the CEO of his favorite hockey team (Boston Bruins) and starting up Facebook Pages for him.
After seeing this amazing outpouring of support, I decided I wanted to take it a bit further... I talked to several people and threw around several ideas, until Tara Myers came up with the idea to incorporate Patricks love for local music. From there we decided to try and organize a Benefit Concert featuring many of our local bands and talents. The response we received was immediate and OVERWHELMING!
Every person we asked for help was not only willing, but went above and beyond what was asked of them. We generated more interest, donations, and volunteers daily. Many of our talented locals have generously donated their time and spirit to this event.
I'm so inspired by the community spirit. We have a closeness that many other places do not have. To know that when one of our own is in trouble, people are not only willing but able to make a difference. To take their time, energy, and talents, and join together to contribute in the aid of a family who is in need.
Today, we are pleased to announce that on April 07 2012 at "On The Rocks Pub" we with the help of a spectacular group of individuals present the "NO PITY RECOVERY KICKOFF FUNDRAISER"!!!
Please join in our efforts to contribute to this amazing cause! Tickets will go on sale Monday March 26 @ ON THE ROCKS PUB and TENACIOUS DETAIL
(TICKETS ARE $20.00 each)
Make a Quilt and Make a Difference
Them local quilters! ...they're always up to something! Checkout the great way these local artists have been using their artistic talents to benefit the learning minds of today!
The quilt featured in this picture above was made by Janette Schneider with the assistance of Olga Braun. They are part of a local quilting guild that has donated quilts in the past to the Salvation army for local families in need.
Two months ago, Janette took some of her extra quilting blocks that had been set aside and decided to make a quilt for donation to the SD60 meals program. The program is coordinated by Vice-Principal Dave Burridge and supports students in need by providing healthy snacks and meals so that they can better focus on their studies. There are several in-town schools that benefit from this funding and have both a breakfast and lunch program in place. In addition, all the students in these schools benefit by having the option of purchasing healthy food at cost.
>The meals program is part of a broader Ministry of Education initiative called Community Links that provides targeted funding to districts for staffing, resources and programs to meet the needs of vulnerable students. While this provides some base funding, some of the increasing costs, such as healthy food, means the program relies additionally on both private and corporate sponsorship. This is another great example of a local arts group making a difference in Fort St. John.
Raffle tickets for this beautiful quilt cost only $2.00 and are available at Robert Ogilvie School, Central School and the School Board Office (across from the legion). Draw date is February 29th

As a famous poet, he wrote mostly about love, women and drinking scotch. He wrote many famous poems, such as Auld Lang Syne and To A Mouse. The FSJACL Presents Of The Vine
The FSJACL is funded for it's general operations but needs to fundraise for things like mobility and communication equipment and services for the people we support. In 2006 we had an event at the Cultural Centre with Dayna Manning as musical entertainment - her first show in Fort St. John - and we brought in Luisa Marshall to perform as Tina Turner. The event was a success! We decided to have the event again the next year but as a wine tasting event – thus the name Of The Vine came about.
This year is our 6th annual Of The Vine event. Of The Vine has become the event to attend for it is a classic event with first rate entertainment, excellent hors d’oeuvres and lovely wines. We do our utmost to provide the best evening for those that attend. We don’t have this event only to raise fundraising dollars but also to share with those that attend a little about our organization and to provide Fort St. John with a classic event to attend. So if you have never attended an Of The Vine event, come, you won’t be disappointed!
Of The Vine happens on Saturday, October 15th at 7 pm at the Lido. Tickets are $75 and you can call 250-785-9262 to reserve tickets or get more information about the night.
