Nine Mile at Egan's Pub

Nine_Mile.jpgAt Northern Groove, we know a fair share about D’Ari from one of Fort St. John’s favorite bands, Nine Mile. For example, we’ve just learned that he loves broccoli. He lists reasons why it’s the best vegetable out there: "It's got anti-oxidants. They look like mini trees. There's no better vegetable to dip with. Much more than a carrot or red pepper, they really cling to the dip. When you dip broccoli, there's such a high content of dip that there's no need to go back in for a double dip. In certain social situations, double dipping can be a little scary."

We also know that Nine Mile is an incredibly fun band to watch. Don’t miss their shows on July 9th and 10th at Egan’s Pub! Nine Mile is D’Ari, along with Northern Groove's Dave Tolley, and keyboardist Scott Galloway.

Egan's Pub brought Nine Mile up for the first time five years ago. Every time the band returns, they’re not only excited to spend some quality time in Fort St. John, they're also very excited to play the room at Egan's and immerse themselves in the local music community.

Check out Fort St. John's most excellent metal band, Naughtlia, performing on July 16th.

Naughtlia will be ripping up the stage at Egan's Pub at 8pm! Opening the show will be none other than the always unpredictable and ever entertaining, Resurrect Christ Foundation.

Naughtlia describe themselves as: "The baking of an apple pie when naked with one dirty sock on. And a lot like stinky pinky and the juicy jumbos." If that doesn't make you want to check them out - nothing will!

"Like a Storm" has just been announced as the opener for the upcoming Econoline Crush concert at Egan's Pub on June 24th!

Tickets are selling now online and at Egan's Pub.  $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

Some info about  "Like a Storm" from their website:

On their debut album THE END OF THE BEGINNING, Like A Storm stir up a torrent of infectious hard rock. The Vancouver-based quartet's first full-length is an avalanche of captivating choruses and hard-hitting grooves, as exemplified by the first radio single Chemical Infatuation. Electronic textures and string flourishes cascade into a wall of distortion as vocal melodies hypnotize.

Brothers Chris, Matt and Kent Brooks along with Thomas Karanasos conjure a dynamic rock sound that's simultaneously ethereal and edgy.

Like A Storm's journey began in 2005. After rehearsing once in their native New Zealand, Matt, Chris and Kent decided to move to North America and pursue the rock n' roll dream.

"New Zealand is such an awesome place to grow up," says Chris. "It's a really inspiring place- so beautiful and isolated. But the first time we jammed, we had this amazing chemistry, and we knew we had to take our sound to the world. We left our family and friends and set up in Canada. There are so many different experiences from that time, and the songs on the record are about them."

Upon moving to Canada, it only took one show for Like A Storm to build a buzz. Kai Marcus (Methods of Mayhem/Noise Therapy) saw the band and was instantly blown away. He struck up a friendship with the guys and introduced them to multi-platinum producer Mike Plotnikoff (Three Days Grace/My Chemical Romance/Buckcherry) in early 2006. Plotnikoff and the boys immediately began trading ideas for what would become THE END OF THE BEGINNING.

Big Night Out At Egan's Pub!

Big Night Out is taking the stage at Egan's Pub, Saturday June 12th! The show starts at 9:00pm, be sure to come early and get a table and/or drink or four! These guys will be there to rock, and if you've heard this band before then you know half the town will be crammed into Egan's to rock out with them! You can't go wrong folks, the show is free.  Don't miss out it's going to be great!

Please, read on.....

Formed out of longstanding musical friendships, Big Night Out is driven by a common desire to deliver high-energy rock songs to Fort St. John, as only a Fort St. John band knows how!  The band consists of Ryan Hennessey (guitar, vocals), Mike Strandberg (guitar, vocals), Ryan Mackenzie (drums) and Rod Buchanan (bass).

By striving for a set of original and cover songs aimed at showing people a great time, Big Night Out hopes to accomplish its namesake: sending people home buzzing and wanting more.  “We’re not trying to change the world or send any heavy-duty messages” says Ryan Hennessey.  “For myself, I’m done with the brooding musician thing for awhile.  We just want to play well, play hard and have tons of fun.  The message is in the music.  It’s in the groove and in the melody.  If you find it, that’s awesome.  If you don’t, it’s no big deal.  Hopefully you had as much fun as we did and you’ll go home singing songs from the show.”

Mike and Ryan are particularly enthused about being able to explore more advanced levels of musicianship and songwriting.  “I’m learning guitar licks that make me say ‘Jeez, I wish I started a lot younger!’” says Ryan H.  Rod and (the other) Ryan offer a powerhouse rhythm section that inspires the two guitarists to always bring their A-game.  “We have a lot of respect for each other as players and people, nobody wants to slack off.  We push ourselves individually, so the others don’t have to pick up the strain.”  The result is a big rock sound with hooks that stick in your head:  something Ryan Mackenzie was adamant about, saying “It doesn’t mean anything if you’ve got the best players in the world, the song has to have a hook, either a lyric or a riff, something in it that grabs people and makes them pay attention.” Remember, this is coming from a drummer!  Still, that’s exactly the depth of insight the band has available to them after so many years of playing in Fort St. John.

The lineup offers a ridiculous amount of experience and commitment to Fort St. John’s music scene. Says Ryan Hennessey, “We’re older dudes with families and careers but we love working hard on the songs and rocking out.  It’s a great music scene that offers so much excitement and opportunity to get out there and keep showing people what you can do. There’s nothing better than the nights we all gather for someone’s gig and have an awesome time.”

Econoline Crush Live At Egan's Pub!

It's the announcement you've all been waiting patiently for! No teasers this time! You read the title correctly,  Econoline Crush is coming to Fort St. John Thursday, June 24th!!! Egan's Pub will be hosting this show. The doors will open at 7 PM . The opening acts are yet to be determined. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Egan's or online below. You're going to want to get your tickets right away, as this show will sell out fast!

Econoline Crush was formed 1992 in Vancouver BC and released the first EP entitled “ PURGE” in 1994 garnering the band a Juno nomination. 1996 marked the
second release for the band and sold 11,000+ albums to date solidifying the band as a solid draw in their homeland of Canada.

“The Devil You Know” was released in 1998 and was recorded by Sylvia Massey-Shivy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince, Tool, Johnny Cash) and spawned singles such as “HOME”, “SPARKLE AND SHINE”, “ALL THAT YOU ARE“ and “RAZORBLAIDES...” This album marks the most successful venture to date and has been certified
Platinum in Canada with 112,000 sold to date courtesy Nielsen Soundscan. Econoline Crush toured with such bands as KISS , Foo Fighters , 3 Doors Down ,
Buckcherry and many others in North America along with several successful tours of Europe.

After the success and the extensive touring schedule behind TDYK the band went to record with Bob Rock (Metallica , Motley Crue , The Cult ) and the result was a smash hit single “ YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE” that was added to Big Shiny Tunes 4 being the ONLY UNRELEASED TRACK on the compilation with
800,000+ sold in Canada.

In 2000 the band headed into the studio in order to record “ Brand New History “ with John Travis (Kid Rock) in Los Angeles and recorded the most experimental record to date in the band’s career. After extensive touring south
of the border and with the band gaining a solid foothold on American radio the band's label folded. The band came back to Canada for a very successful headlining tour from the Maritimes to Vancouver and in December 2001 Hurst decided to pull the band over for a “break” in order to re-evaluate the bands position with each other and in the ever changing music business.

In 2007, Hurst announced on his MySpace page that he was working on a new Econoline Crush record and their new album, Ignite, was released on January 15, 2008. Ignite marks the 5th release for the band and was done as a 100% independent project marking this the first time in the band’s career. With the new single "DIRTY" the band hit the road with bands like Three Days Grace and Seether, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Hinder, and Alice Cooper .

Alexander Chemist At Egan's Pub

Alexander_Chemist.png
Alexander Chemist (Alex Klassen) will be playing at Egan's Pub on Friday, May 28th. The show starts at 8:30 PM. Joining Alex will be Mat Savard and Ryan Sebastiano. It's shaping up to be another excellent Friday night show at Egan's. Be there or be square!

This is what Alex has to say about himself and his music....

"I grew up listening to a lot of punk and metal and played in heavier bands through the start of my musical mission. As I've grown older I've chilled out, and my music has followed suit. I've also started wearing t-shirts in colors other than black.

I don't over-think my sound(s), I just let it flow. I try to think outside the box, but inside a reality that makes my songs accesible to a variety of listeners. Whatever happens happens just so happens to be the genre I'm going for... but feel free to fit me into a sub genre derivative of other sub-genres.

My music is self recorded and auto tune free. 100% D.I.Y. with the help of some friends. I've been obsessed with sound since I was about 13 and you can count on me rocking out until I'm old and wrinkled. I can't imagine not having a musical project on the go."

If you would like to learn more about "Alexander Chemist" please visit this link. Also, take some time to check out his music on his myspace. I guarantee it's well worth your while.

superhero.jpgLooking for an excuse to wear your tights and cape?  Well...

Friday, May 7th, at 9PM Egan's Pub will be hosting a "Superheroes and Supervillians" themed bash! 'The Suspicious' will be there to perform and add to this fantastic evening of fun.

You may be asking yourself,  "How do I know whether I'm a superhero or a supervillian?" Perhaps you possess extraordinary superhuman powers and are dedicated to protecting the public. If this is the case you may be a superhero. If you're more into coming up with genius schemes or if world domination is in your plans, you're probably leaning towards the supervillian persona. Either way, we encourage you to find your inner "super-being"  whichever it may be.

Get creative. Dress up as your favourite character and make your way down to Egan's on Friday! Ladies, don't feel left out, think of all the superheroines and supervillianesses! The same goes for you! Tights, capes, boots...

Keep in mind that dressing up is not a requirement. Egan's won't turn away the average joe, they just want everyone to come out and have a great time!  However it's a known fact that those who dress up have more fun!
