Local Dancers off to 2010 World Irish Dance Championships

Monday, 22 March 2010 22:59 Written by FSJ Irish Dance Society

17461_421519930330_883785330_10674666_6332894_n_1.jpgPatricia Robertson and Stevie Mazur will proudly represent Fort St. John and Western Canada at the 40th Annual Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne – World Irish Dance Championships – in Glasgow, Scotland this month (March 28 - April 4, 2010).

These championships are more than just competitions. This celebration of Irish dance, heritage and culture binds together people in Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and Australia. It is the gathering of an extended family of dancers, teachers, parents, musicians, officials, families and lovers of Irish dance.

This cultural event attracts around 4500 dancers accompanied by more than 15,000 supporters to cheer them on. These talented contestants are the best-of-the-best from Irish dance schools in 32 countries around the globe, and have progressed through the ranks of their perspective regions to the top in their age categories.

Patricia and Stevie are talented and fierce competitors who spend many hours each week polishing their skills, and have advanced to compete with the top Irish dancers in the world. Winning both regional and North American national titles, these two will do their best to continue the tradition of excellence created by the past members of the Watt School of Irish Dance and make their presence known on the international stage.

Sub Zero Theatre Presents "Summer Works"

Tuesday, 27 July 2010 17:02 Written by Northern Groove

mini_golf.jpgSub Zero Theatre, in conjunction with Stage North, presents "Summer Works" at the Lido Theatre on Friday, August 6th.

Audiences will enjoy two shows in one: David Ives' "Foreplay, Or, The Art of the Fugue" and "Improv!" with Spontaneous Combustion.

If you're a golf fan (especially the miniature variety), you will love David Ives', "Foreplay, Or, The Art of the Fugue". The show explores the complicated art of golf, dating, and aging. We see "Chuck" in different stages of his life, attempting romance on the golf course. Spontaneous Combustion are always a laugh riot with there fast-paced, zany improv styles.

Directed by Chalene Scott, the show stars Dallas Ashdown, Corinne Dyke, Holli Kirkpatrick, Zac Scott, and Chris Truscott.

Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased at the North Peace Cultural Center. Tickets at the door are $30. All proceeds go to the Stage North Theatre Society.
